BLUE WATERS – British Ships Register Part III – SSR31174

Blue Waters is one of the finest examples of Mr J Thornycroft’s designed gentleman’s motor yachts. Built in 1936 she has been lovingly restored over the past few years keeping her original features and classic lines.

Construction: Hull of carvel constructed Pitch Pine planking on Oak frames with transom of Sapele, copper/bronze fastened. Decks, wheelhouse and coachroof of epoxied, sheathed marine ply. Coachroof and wheelhouse top of marine ply over T & G pitch pine, with non-slip covering. Semi-displacement hull form with centre keel, bilge keels, raked bow and radius transom. Full length rubbing strake of hardwood with additional strakes to stern quarters. Varnished grab-rails to wheelhouse top. Skeg hung and two spade rudders. Wheel steering from wheelhouse helm position. Traditional long keel with mid steel sections. Interior joinery of mahogany, deckheads painted in white.

Masts and Spars : Varnished hardwood signal mast with boom for mizzen steadying sail. Forestay and shrouds.

Mechanical and Electrical: Twin BMC Commodore four cylinder 62hp diesel engines, fresh cooled via heat exchangers and on solid mounts. Mechanical gearboxes with reverse and drive via couplings to stainless steel shafts with three bladed fixed pitch propeller. Alternators charging three 12 volt lead acid batteries sited beneath companionway. Single lever morse engine controls to each engine. 230 volt shorepower support. 230v auxiliary battery charger. Acoustic panels to engine compartment. fuel tank capacity (total) 150 gallons in two tanks of steel. Fuel consumption (owner’s figures) 1 gph. Engines rebuilt in 2005 by Harbour Marine Services Ltd.

Navigational Equipment:  JRC 3000 Radar.  120 XL Garmin GPS.  Lowrence X28 depth sounder.  NASA CLipper log/speed.  Sailor RT2048 VHF radio.  Binnacle mounted steering compass.

Accommodation: Four berths in two cabins, with saloon and wheelhouse, standing headroom of 5′ 9″. The fore-cabin has access to the chain locker and two V berths with stowage beneath, reading lights over, timber slatted cabin sides, two hanging lockers and skylight to fore-deck above. The wheelhouse has a helm position to port with full engine instrumentation and seat, chart table to stb’d with refrigeration sited below. Sliding doors to both side-decks. Opening front screen and side windows. Separate heads compartment with a Baby Blake sea-toilet, hand washbasin and shower with electric pump out discharging directly overboard. A spacious saloon with mahogany paneling has two settee berths with drawers below and drop leaf table between and converting to a very large double berth. A companionway with double doors leads to the aft deck. The galley is equipped with a Taylors 030L kerosene twin hob cooker plus oven and grill, stainless steel sink, crockery/plate racks and utensil stowage. Heating to the saloon from a Taylors diesel fired stove. Opening brass portlights. Berth upholstery in light patterned cloth. Pressurized freshwater system fed from two 25 gallon flexible water tanks. Hot water from engine calorifier and electric immersion unit.

Ground Tackle: Manual anchor windlass.  25lb Pough bower anchor with 3/8″ chain.  Galvanised stemhead fitting with roller.

Safety Equipment: 4 man life-raft in valise.  Whale ‘gusher’ diaphragm and two electric bilge pumps.  Two horseshoe life-buoys with MOB light.  Dan Buoy.  Flares (expiry date not guaranteed).  Life-jackets,  Fire extinguishers (expiry date not guaranteed).  Fire blanket.  Fog horn.  Radar reflector,  First Aid kit.  Electric and navigational lights.  Francis searchlight.

Additional Equipment: Clinker mahogany planked tender with Honda 2hp short shafted outboard engine.  Galvanised stanchions with guardwires.  Varnished handrails to coach-roof and aft side decks. Fenders and various mooring warps.  Boarding ladder.  Brass cased clock and barometer.  Four dorades plus tannoy ventilators to fore-deck.  Custom made coach house and wheel house covers.
